Munich International School: Migration to Mac OS X

Munich International School (MIS) offers a modern, international, English-language learning environment for pupils aged 4 to 18. The school seeks to uphold the highest academic and educational standards while providing a high-tech IT infrastructure for its about 1400 pupils and 300 teachers and administrators. After purchasing Apple MacBooks for pupils and teaching staff, the next step involved replacing the legacy Novell server infrastructure with a 100% Apple environment with the aim of achieving maximum compatibility. 

ConSol* soon emerged as an excellent partner for implementing and migrating to the new IT landscape. The Munich-based IT consulting and software firm convinced with its comprehensive and established Apple expertise and straightforward, realistic migration concept. 

In short, this included:

• migration of pupil accounts to a postfix server and corresponding user data to an LDAP directory in Mac OS X Open Directory;
• comprehensive user management: changes to short names and e-mail addresses to comply with Open Directory specifications; configuration of corresponding aliases, management of user names, accompanying group IDs (e.g., graduation year), comments, keywords; scripts for mass changes;
• setup of Kerio MailServer for internal use by teachers and administrators with additional features such as groupware, a central calendar, and optional appointment management.
